What is LD Tool Steel?
LD Tool Steel is a cold work tool steel developed in China. It features a good balance of toughness and wear resistance, and is often regarded as an improved domestically produced cold work steel grade. Positioned between D2 (high wear resistance but high brittleness) and S7 (high toughness but insufficient wear resistance), it is therefore suitable for applications where both impact loads and abrasion coexist. A prominent characteristic of LD Steel is its strong chipping resistance; its fracture toughness is superior to that of traditional cold work steels. It is widely used in cold stamping dies, shearing tools, and cold forming tools.
