1.2358 | X60CrMoV18-5 Tool Steel is a high-performance German DIN standard cold work tool steel, designed for demanding applications requiring both strength and wear resistance. With a balanced alloy composition of approximately 1.28-1.62% carbon, 10.5-12% chromium,0.55-0.95% molybdenum, and vanadium additions, it combines excellent hardness retention at elevated temperatures with superior resistance to thermal fatigue and oxidation.
This steel grade exhibits outstanding toughness and dimensional stability during heat treatment, making it well suited for long-life tools exposed to mechanical and thermal stress. It also provides enhanced corrosion resistance compared to conventional hot work steels, thanks to its high chromium content.
Typical applications include die-casting molds, hot shear blades, forging dies, and extrusion tools where both wear resistance and heat resistance are critical.
