Introduction to 1.2581 | SKD5 | H21 | X30WCrV9-3 | 3Cr2W8V | 2730 | 3X2B8Φ 

1.2581 (DIN/Germany)

A tungsten-chromium hot-work steel with excellent high-temperature strength (up to 600°C). Contains 0.35% C, 2.5% Cr, and 9% W. Ideal for extrusion dies and forging tools due to its thermal fatigue resistance. Requires proper quenching (oil/air) and tempering. Common in European machinery.

SKD5 (JIS/Japan)

Japanese equivalent of H21, with 9% W and 3% Cr. Offers superior heat resistance for aluminum/copper alloy die casting. Hardens to 50–55 HRC after quenching. Requires tempering at 600–650°C. Popular in automotive and aerospace tooling.

H21 (AISI/USA)

A classic tungsten-chromium hot-work steel (0.35% C, 3.5% Cr, 9% W). Known for red hardness (up to 650°C) and resistance to thermal softening. Used for extrusion dies, hot punches, and glass-molding tools. Prone to decarburization; needs protective atmosphere during heat treatment.

X30WCrV9-3 (AFNOR/France)

French hot-work steel with 9% W, 3% Cr, and 0.3% V. Combines thermal stability (600°C) with good machinability. Used for high-stress forging dies and turbine components. Less common globally but valued for niche high-temperature applications.

3Cr2W8V (GB/China)

Chinese standard steel with 3% Cr, 2% W, and 8% V. Excels in wear resistance and toughness under cyclic heating (500–600°C). Used for die-casting molds, hot shears, and high-pressure valves. Cost-effective for aluminum/magnesium alloy processing.

2730 (AISI/USA)

A medium-carbon hot-work steel with 1.5% Cr and 0.5% Mo. Balances thermal conductivity and shock resistance. Operates up to 540°C. Common in brass/copper alloy forging dies and plastic injection molds. Less alloyed than H21 but easier to machine.

3X2B8Φ (Russian)

Russian-grade steel with 3% Cr, 2% W, and 8% V (similar to 3Cr2W8V). Optimized for high-pressure die casting and hot-stamping tools. Retains hardness at 550–600°C. Requires precise heat treatment to avoid brittleness.
