Introduction 1.2343 | H11 | 4Cr5MoSiV | 4X5MΦC | W300 | SKD6 | X38CrMoV5-1 Steel
1.2343 (DIN)
A premium chromium-molybdenum-vanadium steel (0.38% C, 5.3% Cr) offering exceptional thermal fatigue resistance (up to 600°C). Features high hardenability (HRC 50-54 after quenching at 1020-1050°C) and excellent toughness for aluminum die-casting dies. Its tungsten-free composition reduces production costs while maintaining 20-30% longer service life than standard H13 in high-pressure applications.
H11 (AISI)
Mid-carbon hot-work steel (0.35% C, 5% Cr) with balanced strength (1800 MPa UTS) and ductility. Maintains stable hardness (HRC 48-52) through multiple thermal cycles, ideal for forging dies operating at 400-550°C. Contains 1.5% Mo for enhanced creep resistance. Requires oil quenching (1000-1030°C) and double tempering (540-650°C) to optimize impact toughness (>25 J at 500°C).
SKD6 (JIS)
Japanese chromium-molybdenum steel (0.40% C, 5% Cr) with 1.2% W for high-temperature strength. Maintains HRC 45-50 hardness at 550°C through secondary hardening. Preferred for copper alloy extrusion dies due to 25% higher thermal conductivity than SKD61. Requires controlled cooling from 1000°C to prevent δ-ferrite formation in heavy sections (>150mm).
X38CrMoV5-1 (EN)
European standardized H11 variant with precise vanadium control (0.4-0.7%). Features optimized carbide distribution (M7C3/M23C6) through ESR refining, achieving 40% better thermal fatigue resistance than conventional grades. Typical applications include hot shearing blades (HRC 50-54) and titanium forging dies. Requires 2-hour tempering at 600°C to stabilize retained austenite (<3%).
4Cr5MoSiV (GB)
Chinese equivalent of H11 with silicon (1.0%) addition for improved oxidation resistance. Delivers HRC 44-48 hardness after air cooling, suitable for zinc alloy die casting. Exhibits 15% higher thermal conductivity than H13, reducing cycle times in plastic injection molds. Contains 0.4% V for refined grain structure, enhancing wear resistance in copper alloy extrusion applications.
4X5MΦC (Russia)
Russian hot-work steel (0.35% C, 5% Cr) optimized for hammer forging dies. Features 3% Mo and 0.6% V for shock resistance at 300-400°C. Requires specific isothermal annealing (850°C → 720°C) to achieve 220 HB pre-hard state. Demonstrates 30% better thermal crack resistance than SKD61 in high-impact brass forging operations.
W300(BOHLER)
Proprietary steel with 0.3% C and 2.8% Ni for enhanced thermal stability in glass molding (700°C+). Contains 8% Co for red-hardness (HRC 52 at 600°C) and 1.2% Nb to inhibit grain growth. Special vacuum arc remelting process achieves ultra-clean steel (S+P <0.015%), extending die life 2-3× in magnesium thixocasting applications.
